Helen Storrow Seminar kicks off with focus on "me as a leader".

Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose”
-Elizabeth Kubler Ross-

All the participants managed to get up early on time despite the fact that they were all dead tired by their respective long journey and they were all very brave enough to face the cool windy Swiss morning, outside for the opening ceremony.

HSS 2013_1The opening ceremony was started off with a sweet welcome speech by the Centre Manager, Sally, who presented the participants with a beautiful Our Chalet pin badge, which was heartily accepted by the girls.

So, after the gifts presentation, we had our group photo taken and the seminar officially started.

During the course of the day, we learnt about WAGGGS and the WAGGGS Leadership Development Programme (WLDP).

Within this programme we explored our personal leadership qualities and competences and ways of enhancing them. We also talked about team work which included building a makeshift pyramid enabling us to touch the ceiling.HSS 2013_2

The tea time saw a delicious collection of Arabian cuisine which included Arabian breads, cookies and sweet dish brought by our Arabian friends from Oman and Lebanon.

Then after a scrumptious tea party, the participants all gathered together and formed groups and discussed about the climate change and its impacts on their respective countries.

We came to a conclusion that no country has escaped the effects of climate change. Next, we came up with practical solutions for how to reduce our individual carbon footprint.

Following dinner, we had a colorful exhibition of posters brought by all the participants showcasing the various environmental projects the individual countries have recently undertaken. The exhibition ended on a happy note with ice cones and Apfelschörle for all.

A wonderful day was had by all. We’re looking forward to tomorrow.
